I recently discovered that my boyfriend doesn’t know the meaning of ‘Netflix and Chill’.
Apparently when you’re a proper adult, the meaning of ‘chill’ goes no further than seeing how many Pringles and cookies it’s acceptable to eat on a Sunday while watching endless episodes of Storage Wars – then having a well deserved nap.
Thankfully, I didn’t make the discovery by inviting him to not watch Stranger Things with me (I was too busy eating Pringles and cookies).
Instead, I had the joy of seeing his Dad’s confused reaction when my boyfriend innocently announced our plans for the afternoon were to ‘Netflix and Chill’.
Boyfriend’s Dad: “I’m off out, what are you up to this afternoon?”
Boyfriend: “Think we’re going to Netflix and Chill”
Boyfriend’s Dad: “oh….”
Me: “are we?”
Boyfriend: “yeah *puts on film voice* Netflix and Chill……. it’s what all the cool kids are saying.
Me: “Stop talking”.
Boyfriend’s Dad: “erm, enjoy your Netflix and Chill”.
Me: “you do know what Netflix and Chill is?”
Boyfriend: “yeah when you relax in front of the TV”
There’s nothing more entertainingly embarrassing than being part of an awkward conversation where your boyfriend has no idea he’s casually announcing to his Dad he’s taking you upstairs for a shag.
I’d love to tell you how the story ends but I’m still digging myself out from where the ground swallowed me up.

This is hilarious! That kind of misunderstandings happen all the time, to everyone at some time, one way or another! Sometimes what’s more interesting than the misunderstanding of a lingo is seeing how people react when they know the real meaning.. Bless your boyfriend’s pure heart! 😀
